RECORDED BOOKS LAUNCHES
VIDEO GAME LINE FOR PUBLIC LIBRARIES

Prince Frederick, MD, September 30, 2009 - Recorded Books, the world’s premier
publisher of unabridged audiobooks and a Haights Cross Communications company,
announced that it has launched a product line of third-party video games and
equipment for sale to public libraries. The latest new releases of top-selling games
will be available for the most popular gaming consoles, including the Wii, Xbox
360, PS3, and hand-held devices. Among the most recent releases are: Wii Sports
Resort, Beatles Rock Band, Madden NFL 10, Guitar Hero 5, Star Wars – Clones,
and Need for Speed Shift.

“Recorded Books has been fulfilling the interests and needs of public libraries for
over 30 years. Since the American Library Association announced its gaming
literacy initiative and Verizon Foundation grant program, video games have reached
a new level of awareness in public libraries,” said Jim Schmidt, Vice President of
Recorded Books Games. “Recorded Books has partnered with leading distributors
of video games and equipment to provide public libraries with competitively priced
games and equipment. Public library customers will enjoy Recorded Books’ easy
ordering, fast delivery, marketing support and excellent service. This is one of
Recorded Books’ most exciting new growth initiatives.”

Recorded Books said that its strategic decision to offer gaming solutions to public
libraries is in response to the fast-growing involvement of libraries in electronic
games. A recent survey of 400 public libraries by the American Library Association
shows that seven out of 10 public libraries support gaming in some way, with larger
libraries more likely to offer collections and programs. Over 75% of public libraries
support gaming at the library, allowing computer or board gaming, circulating
games, or offering gaming events and programs.
