Prince Frederick, MD – February 6, 2009 – Recorded Books has signed Alan Sitomer, highly acclaimed author of young adult literature and three-time Teacher of the Year, to write a high school English curriculum product that will be published in April 2009.
“We are thrilled to work with such a visionary teacher to create a product that will engage students and help them succeed,” said Will DeLamater, Recorded Books Vice President of School Sales and Product Development.
The Alan Sitomer BookJam includes materials that Sitomer uses in his inner-city Los Angeles classroom. The program is designed to engage reluctant readers with high interest literature, elevate core literacy skills, close the Achievement Gap, and produce high-quality results that are reflected in standardized test scores and real-world applications.
Sitomer, whose novel The Secret Story of Sonia Rodriguez was recently chosen as a Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers by ALA, said, “Scripted curriculum is not working. Educational companies seem more concerned with corporate profits than effective methodology. This is why I took the time to step aside from writing young adult fiction to create The BookJam.” Sitomer added, “All I can say is this stuff works. And it’s not rocket science. Kids are kids, and when you can get them to participate in their own education, the sky is the limit.”
